Nairn County VS Forres (7/8/2016) RESERVE T20 CUP

Nairn County Cricket Club progress to the finals of the Reserve T20 Cup after defeating Forres at the Links last Sunday. Forres were put into bat and were limited to 77 runs and lost five wickets because of a strong performance by Nairn in the field and with the ball. Four Nairn bowlers took a wicket apiece despite having to deal with adverse weather conditions.

After a short interval, Nairn went into bat and lost two early wickets in the innings. Nairn eventually recovered from these early setbacks to win the match with five overs to spare. The pick of the Nairn batsmen was Martin Bronkhorst who scored 20 runs and Iain Macleod who scored 17. Nairn’s reserves will be in the T20 finals next week to win their first piece of silverware of the season.

Nairn County’s reserve team stay top of the NOSCA Reserve League after a comprehensive victory against Elgin at the Nairn Links last Sunday. Elgin won the toss and put Nairn into bat. Nairn’s top order had a good start to the game scoring 104 runs within the first 20 overs. After the drinks break, Elgin’s bowlers were able to restrict Nairn to 3 runs an over which resulted in Nairn finishing the innings on 161 runs for eight wickets. The pick of the Nairn batsmen was Martin Bronkhorst who scored 46 runs and Alex Green who scored 40.

After the interval, Nairn’s bowling attack went after Elgin's top order managed to dismiss the opening five batsmen within ten overs. Elgin’s batsmen were unable to recover and were quickly bowled out for 51 runs in 20 overs. The pick of the Nairn bowlers was Steven Neill, Alex Green and Ronin Brandsma who each took two wickets. Once again Nairn’s juniors played an important role in the game with Ronin Brandsma and Henry Kerr each taking wickets as well as Shane Hayward and George Kerr making contributions important contributions in the field.

Nairn County was beaten by Fort William in the NOSCA Senior League last Saturday at the Nairn Links. Nairn won the toss and elected to field, and a strong start from Nairn limited Fort William to 98 runs in the opening 22 overs of the game. After the tea break, Fort William’s batsmen settled into the game which led to Fort William closing the innings on 248-8. The pick of the Nairn bowlers was Calum Forsyth and Steven Neill who took three wickets a piece.

After the interval, Nairn was put into bat and lost four wickets within the opening seven overs because of a domineering performance by the Fort William bowlers. After this Nairn recovered because of a strong 5th wicket partnership of 56 runs between Neil Gibson and Andy Cresswell. This helped Nairn on its way to 152 before being bowled out. The pick of the Nairn batsmen was Andy Cresswell who scored 61 runs which included six boundaries. Nairn juniors also made a contribution to the game with Jason Brandsma taking a wicket and both Ronin Brandsma and Shane Hayward scoring six runs each.

Nairn County’s second XI suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Elgin last Sunday at Cooper Park. Elgin won the toss and put Nairn into bat. The opening pair of Alex Green and Jason Brandsma had put on a 105 run partnership before the Nairn captain was caught out on 66 runs. Jason Brandsma then went on to score his first ever half-century in senior cricket. Nairn finished the innings on 213 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. The pick of the batsmen was Jason Brandsma who scored 86 runs.

In the second innings, Elgin came out and started their innings strongly with their opening pair putting on an 110 run partnership before Alex Green dismissed one of them. Unfortunately, for Nairn, this would turn out to be the only wicket of the game as it was rained off in the 27th over. Elgin won the match through NOSCA’s rain calculator.

Nairn County was narrowly defeated by Buckie in the T20 cup at Cooper Park in Elgin last Saturday. Buckie won the toss and elected to bat and was put under pressure straight away by Nairn’s bowling attack which took five wickets in the first six overs. After this Buckie had a middle order revival to score 113 runs before they were bowled out. The pick of the Nairn bowlers was Alex Green, who took three wickets in his spell. Nairn junior Shane Hayward also had a good day with the ball taking two wickets in his spell.

After the interval, Nairn was put into bat and lost a couple of important wickets in the opening overs. Steven Neill then put Nairn back in a good position with an aggressive innings which gave the visitors a chance to win the game. Unfortunately, for Nairn, Buckie’s bowling tightened towards the end of the game which resulted in Nairn only scoring 97 runs. The pick of the Nairn batsman was Steven Neill, who scored 32 runs.

Nairn County’s continued their dominance of the NOSCA Reserve League after a comprehensive victory Highland Cricket Club at the Nairn Links last Sunday. Nairn was put in the field in the first innings and got off to a good start taking out Highland’s first six batsmen for less than 50 runs. This included a run out from Tom Green in the 11th over. Highland was eventually bowled out for 87. The pick of the Nairn bowlers was John Sargant, who took three wickets for 20 runs and Ronin Brandsma, who took two wickets without conceding a run.

After the break, Nairn was put into bat and lost a couple of early wickets. Nairn then settled into the innings with Martin Bronkhorst and John Sargant putting together a 29 run partnership. Nairn eventually passed the visitors total in the 34th over with Shane Hayward scoring the winning runs. The pick of the Nairn batsmen was John Sargant, who scored 23 runs and Martin Bronkhorst, who scored 20 runs. Nairn’s juniors played an important role in the match with Ronin Brandsma taking two wickets, Jason Brandsma taking a wicket and Shane Hayward scoring the winning runs.

Nairn County lost in a close match against Northern Counties last weekend at the Nairn Links last Saturday. Northern Counties were put into bat first and came under pressure from the Nairn bowling attack. However, a 95 run knock from Northern Counties’ Nuwan Eshwara among others helped the visitors end the innings on 220 for eight heading into the interval. The pick of the Nairn bowlers was Steven Neill and Stephen Anniss, who both took two wickets each.

After the break, Nairn got off to a difficult start losing their captain for a duck. After this, Nairn rebuilt their innings with Alex Green and Neil Gibson putting on a 22 run partnership. After the pair had been dismissed, Nairn’s middle order went on the counter attack with Ian Lednor and Stephen Anniss putting on an 111 run partnership which put Nairn in a position to win the game. Unfortunately, Northern Counties were able to take out Nairn’s lower order resulting in Nairn being bowled out for 200 runs. The pick of the Nairn batsmen was Ian Lednor, who scored 70 runs and Stephen Anniss, who scored 65.

Nairn continued their unbeaten run in the NOSCA Reserve League with a victory over Fochabers last Sunday at the Nairn Links. Nairn were put into bowl at the toss and started off the innings strongly and only conceded 42 runs in the opening 20 overs. Fochabers then settled into the match and started to go after the Nairn bowling attack which resulted in the visitors scoring 162 runs for the loss of only 5 wickets. The pick of the Nairn bowlers was Jason Brandsma who two wickets for 22 runs in his spell.

After the break Nairn got off to a good start but lost a wicket in the 5th over. Nairn then responded positively to the loss with Captain Alex Green and Martin Bronkhorst putting on a 119 run partnership to put Nairn in a position to win the game. The partnership was eventually broken when Bronkhorst was caught on 39. Alex Green continued to have a good day with the bat and ended up scoring his first Nairn century to win the game for Nairn. Nairn’s juniors played a major part in the game with Jason Brandsma and Shane Hayward taking wickets.
